How to Care for Mango Wood Decor and Serveware: A Simple Guide

Short answer: wipe mango wood with a soft, dry or lightly damp cloth and dry it straight away. Never soak it, put it in a dishwasher or use harsh cleaners, and keep it away from direct heat and long hours of strong sunlight. An occasional rub of wood oil keeps the grain rich.

Everyday cleaning

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth.
  • For marks or spills, use a cloth that is only lightly damp, then dry the piece immediately.
  • Avoid soaking, dishwashers, abrasive scrubbers and strong chemical cleaners. They can raise the grain, cause warping or dull the finish.

Keeping mango wood looking new

  • Oil it occasionally. A light coat of wood oil, rubbed in with a soft cloth and left to absorb, keeps the wood from drying out.
  • Keep it out of harsh sun and heat. Long hours of direct sunlight or a spot next to a stove or heater can fade or crack the wood.
  • Mind the humidity. In monsoon months, wipe pieces dry and keep them in a well-ventilated spot.

Care by product

  • Tissue boxes, tissue stands and remote stands: dust regularly; wipe and dry any spills straight away.
  • Cutlery holders: put cutlery in only when it is fully dry, and wipe the inside now and then.
  • Platters and roti boxes: wipe clean and dry after each use; do not soak or wash in a dishwasher.
  • Chowkis: dust regularly and avoid placing hot items or wet pots directly on the surface.
  • Coasters: wipe off rings and drips and let them dry before stacking.

Why every piece looks a little different

Mango wood is a natural material, and our pieces are engraved and finished by hand, so grain, colour and tone vary from piece to piece. That variation is a sign of handwork, not a defect.

Frequently asked questions

Can mango wood get wet?

A quick wipe with a damp cloth is fine as long as you dry it straight away. Do not soak it or leave water standing on it.

Is mango wood dishwasher safe?

No. Heat and water in a dishwasher can warp and crack wood.

How often should I oil mango wood?

Whenever it starts to look dry or dull – for most decor pieces, every few months is plenty.
